Desert, tower or personal?
An air cooler works by evaporating water, which means it cools best in dry heat and struggles once the monsoon humidity arrives. Where that trade-off suits you it costs a fraction of an air conditioner to buy and to run — and where it does not, no amount of tank capacity will fix it.
- A cooler needs a window or door open to work. Sealing the room the way you would for an air conditioner makes it worse, not better.
- Tank capacity decides how long it runs unattended, not how cold it gets. Airflow, measured in cubic metres per hour, is the number that matters for cooling.
- In coastal and high-humidity areas, be honest with yourself: an air conditioner is the right purchase. We will say so rather than sell you a cooler you will resent by July.
